Man wanted for shooting and injuring a Banks County deputy

Authorities believe a man wanted for shooting a Banks County deputy Wednesday afternoon is in the Atlanta area.

“While the suspect fled on foot, he continued to shoot towards the deputy’s patrol unit,” the Banks County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The deputy was shot while still in his patrol car, according to the sheriff’s office.

A man suspected of shooting and injuring a Banks County deputy on Wednesday afternoon as part of a spree of criminal activity may now be in the Atlanta area after forcing a Commerce woman at gunpoint to drive him there, according to a Thursday news release from the Banks County Sheriff’s Office.
The Banks County deputy, who was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, was shot while attempting to stop of the suspect at Tanger Outlet Center, a short distance from the dragstrip on U.S. 441.
